Eleebana is a waterside suburb located 18 kilometres southwest of Newcastle central business district, in the Greater Newcastle region. Eleebana is a small residential suburb sitting on the eastern shoreline of Lake Macquarie. The suburb is situated between Warners Bay and Mount Hutton to the north, and Croudace Bay and Valentine to the south. Eleebana enjoys proximity to Nine Mile Beach and central Newcastle.
Following the European settlement of Australia, the area that makes up Eleebana today remained undeveloped up until the latter half o the 20th century. The steep land and poor soil quality made it unsuitable for agricultural use. Basic utilities like electricity were connected to Eleebana in 1947. Eleebana Public School opened in 1955 and residential development took place in the 1970s and '80s.
Eleebana is largely a residential suburb. A number of parks and green spaces exist, with those on the shores of Lake Macquarie including Thomas H Halton Park, Croudace Bay Park and Lions Park. Red Bluff Boardwalk is found in the suburb's north and affords pedestrians and cyclists uninterrupted views of Lake Macquarie. A range of shops and services are found in neighbouring Warners Bay and Mount Hutton.
